What is Inflation & How to overcome Inflation?

Filed under: Investment, Malaysia, World — johnnytan88 @ 11:09 am

When my grandfather was alive, he used to tell me how cheap things were. He used to tell me with one dollar, he could buy four cups of coffee. That was in 1970.

In 1980, before my grandfather passed away, he told me that with one dollar, he could only buy two cups of coffee.

In 1990, my father told me that with one dollar he could only buy one cup of coffee.

And now in year 2008, with one dollar we could hardly buy half cup of coffee.

What is this mean?

If you have one million dollar in 1970, it does not mean you have one million in 2008. The value of your money is actually worth $250,000.

1970 – $1 = 4 Cup of Coffee

1980 – $1 = 2 Cup of Coffee

1990 – $1 = 1 Cup of Coffee

2000 – $1 = ½ Cup of Coffee

Average of Inflation = 5%

So what would you do?

Put it in the Bank? Bank is only giving average of 1% returns per year.

Put it in Fixed Deposit? FD is only giving an average of 4 – 5% returns per year.

Put it in Employee Providence Fund? EPF is giving average of 5 – 6% returns per year.

Do you want a mechanism whereby could help you to generate more returns in future?

Do you want to make sure that your retirement plans are secure?
